Guna Milan is the traditional system of kundli matching used to assess compatibility between a prospective bride and groom. It evaluates eight aspects, known as kootas, which together total 36 points.
Each koota measures a different dimension of the relationship — from mental compatibility and temperament to health, progeny and longevity of the bond. Points are awarded for each area based on the couple's birth stars and moon signs.
A score above 18 is generally considered acceptable, while higher scores indicate stronger compatibility. However, the total score alone is not the whole picture; astrologers also examine doshas such as Manglik and their remedies.
